5 best haunted Houses IN southern california

Prepare to scream, and scream, and.................

September 25, 2018 – November 4, 2018

San Diego Hotlimos and Party Bus knows that Halloween Season is here in San Diego. Which Haunted House has your curiosity peaked? We all love haunted houses so why don’t we have them year round? I guess the addage goes, ‘too much of a good thing is bad for you’ well this might be what they are referring to.

We have investigated over 50 organized haunted houses in Southern California and San Diego. We’ve found the 5 Best Haunts by ranking them based on these following criteria, and my personal judgement and experience. I love being scared and I hope you do to.

HOW WE RANKED THE HAUNTED HOUSES

  1. If the house allows those Under 13 years of age. Let’s be honest, the reason we go to haunts is to be scared. Having endorphins rushing your blood is a definite high. Disneyland Haunted Mansion is not going to pass the test.
  2. Has the Haunt been in business for over 3 years? If people remember your Haunts name or even your name with a favorable light than you are a success!
  3. Professional Scare Master – Scaring people is a real artform! Some people muddy through the waters and fail miserably. Successful Scare Masters make 200 to 300 Thousand in 20 days. If you went to a bad haunt would you go back the following year?
  4. Number of rooms or the time spent in the Haunts. More rooms have more characters waiting to scare you. Better organized events really make the difference between good and bad haunted houses.
Are the Haunts VIP and Handicap accessible? Courtesy shows the amount of consideration for all your guests.
  5. Do aggregate reviews from 3rd party sites draw a picture of what is good to come. Please leave a review and share your adventure or misadventure.
  6. Is the Haunt physically challenging? Without getting dirty can it really be scary. Real Haunts incorporate all your senses and at times should make you feel uncomfortable. Today Haunts are making those who love to be scared sign their life away with contracts. Letting you know what you are getting your hands into. Some even make you take a physical before entering. As we mentioned prior, the Haunted Mansion from Disneyland is still in the spot people call, “The Happiest Place on Earth.”.
  7. Is there a spot close that you can share a beer or drink and laugh with your friends about your ptsd? Most people don’t want to travel out to the middle of nowhere to be scared unless they have a party set up there too.
Get ready for all the creativity, adrenaline, and seasonal frightful fun.

Here at San Diego Hotlimos and Party Bus we love the Halloween Season and we want you to love it as much as us.

All during September and October we are taking $100 off 2-way transportation during the week Sunday-Thursday. If you wish to attend multiple Haunts we suggest an hourly bus charter. Hourly Party Bus Rental means you are in control of where you go within a certain amount of distance. The driver will be your personal chauffeur. You will save $200 on Hourly Transportation to 2 or more houses. Also, please remember that lines will play into your time. We can personally call the Haunts and organize a discounted rate for each of the events and VIP access for the Haunts agreed upon price.

Some very important rules that you should adhere to before entering and of the Haunts we have listed:

  • Please don’t wear costumes or masks if you are planning on going. This is generally due to insurance purposes but you can also the conflicts that may arise.
  • Please don’t enter any of the Haunts under the influence.
  • Please don’t take pictures while in the Haunts
  • Please don’t bring anything expensive into the Haunt that you wouldn’t want to lose.
  • Please don’t touch the actors or demonic entities inside the haunts. They may swallow your soul if provoked.
  • Please click on the link to the Haunt you will be attending and check out their rules and regulations or FAQ section.

#5 BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA

The Haunted Hotel 424 Market Street San Diego, Ca 92101

3 out of 7 Goalie Masks  (Goalie Masks: Vip/Handicap, Party!, History)

History: San Diego’s longest running haunt. The Hotel opened its doors to victims in 2008 and has plenty of experience. The Haunted Hotel is in downtown San Diego in the historic Gaslamp District on the corner of 4th and Market.

Tickets:  Tickets are $20 a piece and they have VIP avoid the line $30 and $5 off coupons available at any San Diego Goodwill Store while supplies last. Coupons are valid Sunday – Thursday only. The big catch is that you can’t purchase your tickets online to receive a discount (but you will save the $3.00 service fee they charge online) but, you will have to wait in the ticket line 30 to 90 minutes. If you have coupons we suggest to come extra early and avoid the rush. San Diego Hotlimos and Party Bus have Discounted Group Rates; please make sure to notify us if you want us to procure your tickets for you.

Scares:  They claim to be a recent #1 Haunt in America, but what “recent” and “who’s doing the ranking” is left out. I guess you will have to be the judge. This year the claim to have the all-new “Hellevator” which will probably take you to hell and back without a hand-basket is their new attraction. Wednesdays are special in that they turn down the lights a bit for an even scarier mood. Kids under 10 are not recommended. When any Haunted House doesn’t have a mandatory age of entrance it generally means they are family friendly (read between the lines – not scary)

#4 BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA

Dark Harbor Queen Mary 1126 Queens Highway Long Beach, CA 90802

6 out of 8 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Party!, History, Reviews, Time, Professional Scare, Physically Demanding

History: 19 years of bringing adrenaline to bursting levels. Every year 23,000 square feet. Biggest indoor haunt in Southern California (Not sure how that beats a whole cruise ship – Queen Mary) People have amazing reviews throughout the years. The great thing about long lasting events is that they are able to provide more for less.

Tickets: $15 for General Admission and $25 for VIP and allows you the head of the line access. VIP Fast Line you will save yourself a good 60% of your time.

Scares: 8 Themes with over 100 Rooms. You won’t be (shouldn’t be touched) so don’t count on peeing your pants or cardiac arrest but be prepared for very well planned out scares. They do have “Lights on Tours” for kids between 1pm and 4pm. Sometimes history is more important than anything. Reign of Terror doesn’t rank well with us but 19 years is a very important number. We have yet to find a bad review. For what it’s worth sometimes the poorest kid in the room will end up making the most money.

#3 BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA

Knotts Scary Farms 8039 Beach Boulevard Buena Park CA 90620

5.5 out of 8 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Vip/Handicap, Party!, History, Reviews, Physically Challenging, Rooms/Ghouls)

History: Knotts Scary Farms easily puts on the biggest show for Haunted Houses in the U.S. They spend millions and have over 1000 creatures lurking the mazes to scare you! They completely overhaul their Theme Park just for Halloween. They want to be the biggest and best fright on the planet. The mazes leave little to the imagination because they have thought of every possible way to scare every victim without burying them in the ground for 24 hours. Since they are a very large corporate company they have much to protect. These are mazes won’t be very “physical” but the technical and machinery involved is amazing in every sense of the word. Nothing is done and cheap! The costumes and the acting by the ghouls is convincing and frightening.

Tickets: San Diego Hotlimos and Party Bus has group tickets for groups 15 or more. You can also go to Carl’s Jr., Hot Topic, AAA, and always the Military Discount. Coupons range from $35 to $50. but they do not come with the “Fast Lane”. If you don’t have that you better like standing for hours. Weekends you are looking at $150 with Fast Lane.

Scares: 4 zones or terror that are themed so you can pick your “flavor”: CarnEvil, Ghost Town Streets, Forsaken Lake, The Hallow. A grand total of 9 mazes of a lurking demons, creatures, evil entities! Easily the largest in in California. For the parents or kids who are too “ascared” (afraid + scared) the have some entertainment. The shows for the whole family: Conjurers – magic show. Hacks! – Comedy Theater. The Hanging – Comedy Theater. Last but not least lets not forget 13 Thrill Rides, 15 Family Rides, and 12 Kids Rides.

Both Knotts Scary Farm and Dark Harbor received the same score. We felt that Knott’s Scary Farm had more to offer for the money: rides, experience, advanced techniques. You will spend more money but it’s a very elaborate setup. For complete satisfication we would suggest to get their as early as possible.

BONUS: BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN SOUTHER CALIFORNIA

Creep Los Angeles 777 S. Alameda St Los Angeles, CA 90021

6 out of 8 Goalie Masks (Goalie Masks: Party!, History, Reviews, Time, Professional Scare, Physically Demanding)

We are not going to grade Creep because we haven’t found any convincing evidence of its success. They are very specific in saying,

“CREEP LA: AWAKE IS A FULLY IMMERSIVE, MULTI-SENSORY EXPERIENCE IN WHICH 25 AUDIENCE MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO EXPLORE HIDDEN SCENES, INTIMATE ENCOUNTERS AND FRIGHTFUL STORIES. THIS IS NOT A HAUNTED HOUSE EXPERIENCE!”.

We are anxious to mention this event because it’s over an hour long and every person who does mention it mentions of how “creepy” it is.

You have to sign an extra large disclaimer and people have claimed some rather bizarre things online. Victims have mentioned it as an interactive experience and in 2015 and 2016 were very good. Unfortunately, victims said that they wasted their money. With that kind of bad press it tends to make artists really shine! I think I will go and report on it for you next year.

Not to worry though for they are open until November 4.

What I haven’t told you is the price: $89! Not only is it that but you have to sign up for a slotted time and there are no discounted times.

To add in your curiosity: “AWAKE” IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR AUDIENCE MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH WALKING, CRAWLING, STANDING, CLIMBING STAIRS, MOMENTS OF COMPLETE DARKNESS, MATURE THEMES, INTIMATE ENCOUNTERS OR BEING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO STRANGERS AND PERFORMERS. YOU WILL BE TOUCHED.
